Winter Health and Essential Vaccinations

As the colder months approach, it's crucial to focus on your health and the well-being of those you care for. At Ambition24hours, we want to remind all healthcare professionals of the importance of reporting any potential health issues or occupational health risks. Staying healthy this winter is key, and that includes getting your flu vaccinations.

Stay Protected with Seasonal Flu Vaccination

We encourage all eligible staff to get both flu vaccinations this season. By staying up to date with your vaccinations, you protect yourself, your colleagues, and your patients from the spread of infection. This is especially critical in healthcare settings where viruses can spread easily.

Already Vaccinated?

If you’ve already completed your seasonal vaccinations, please notify us via the Staffshift live chat or UK WhatsApp Chat.

Who Should Get the Flu Vaccines?

  • Are a frontline health or social care worker

  • Are 65 or over (or will turn 65 by 31 March 2025)

  • Have certain health conditions

  • Are pregnant

  • Live in a care home for older adults

How to Get the Flu Vaccine

If you're eligible for the NHS flu vaccine, you can:

  1. Book a flu vaccination appointment at a pharmacy online or through the NHS app (for those aged 18 and over)

  2. Find a pharmacy that offers NHS flu vaccinations (for those aged 18 and over)

  3. Contact your GP surgery to schedule an appointment

Higher Risk Factors

It’s important to notify us if you believe you’re at higher risk of severe infection. Risk factors include:

  • Age: People over 60 are generally more vulnerable.

  • Health conditions: diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory issues, or weakened immune systems increase risk.

  • Pregnancy: pregnant individuals may face higher risk.

  • Obesity: a BMI of 30 or higher can increase the risk of severe outcomes.

Promptly reporting health concerns helps us take the necessary precautions to protect everyone involved. Adhering to infection prevention and control measures is crucial in maintaining a safe environment for both staff and patients.

Infection Control Measures

To keep our workplaces safe, we must follow strict infection control procedures. These include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): always wear the appropriate PPE for your role and care setting.

  • Hand Hygiene: regularly wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitiser, especially before and after patient contact.

Reporting Health Concerns

Considering ongoing health risks, it’s essential to communicate any changes in your health. This includes:

  • Symptoms of respiratory illnesses, such as cough, fever, or loss of taste and smell.

  • Exposure to COVID-19 or other infectious diseases.

  • Any personal health changes that might affect your ability to provide care.

Next Steps

Please complete your annual occupational health medical questionnaire and notify us of any health changes as they arise. Your proactive approach to health and safety is crucial to maintaining a safe working environment.
